NB Project - History

I always searched for open-source alternative tools that could plan and manage projects of software so simple and intuitive. I found several interesting projects as: Planner, GanttProject, OpenProj e dotProject. All implemented the core functions of planning (of time - that I needed at the moment) but what I drew most attention was the GanttProject by its ease, lightness, be multi platform and the main ones: MS Project import and exported the planning of project in various formats (HTML, pdf).

Then I started to use the GanttProject to manage my projects. I created planning, exported to HTML using a template customized by me and published on the Internet so that all resources could see their activities. The resources accessed the site of the project, saw its activities and carried out.

So far, so good. But to manage the project and know the progress of the tasks I had to talk to each one of my resources. -- How is the task? It ends at the time? ...

At this point I have not been fully satisfied. To learn the progress of the project at the end of the day I would have to talk with all the resources of the project and update each of the activities. It is there that I thought to create a tool that was as easy as the GanttProject and that would allow the user know the progress of their activities. In this way the manager could monitor the progress of the activities of a more agile and always had updated its planning.

Coincidentally, I was reading my daily news and saw the announcement of the Netbeans Innovator Grants and decided to submit a proposal with my tool to manage projects.

But how to submit such a project to a competition of Netbeans? What would add to Netbeans?

It is there that I have some more ideas: Create a tool on the platform  netbeans and enable the resource see and inform the progress of its tasks in the same tool in which it uses to develop. Without the nececidade to open more than one application. It was only open a window and was there Netbeans their activities.

After that was only preparing the proposal and expected the approval. :)

Comments:

this is really cool , i been searching for a while for a project management tool that integrates with NetBeans , I’m a big fun of Netbeans, really I like it, although I worked for a while using eclipse, but I do hate IBM as its good products is not free, even those runs under eclipse, such as RSA (Rational Software architect) I’m really looking forward to work with on (NB Project), I have some ideas I hope you like, as I were working previously as a project manager but now I’m working as system analyst
